A summer shopping festival is under way in Licheng District, Quanzhou, with 600 free food passports now available to residents and visitors.

The "Summer in Licheng" festival marks the debut of the Licheng Food Passport, one of the event's main attractions. Applications are now open.

Home to the historic heart of Quanzhou and a key showcase for the city's culinary heritage, Licheng is packed with traditional southern Fujian favourites, including wheat-vermicelli soup, ginger duck, agar jelly and thick beef soup.

Part coupon booklet and part stamp-collecting guide, the passport includes four RMB 5 vouchers with no minimum spend, as well as more than 20 discounts from participating businesses. It will be valid from 11 July to 30 August 2026.

Successful applicants can collect their passports from the Sri Lanka Cultural Pavilion at 373 Zhongshan Road between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on 11 or 12 July.

Passport holders can earn stamps by completing tasks in four categories: shopping at time-honoured businesses, taking photographs at designated food venues, answering quiz questions and sharing their experiences on social media. Those who collect stamps from 10 participating businesses can exchange them for a cultural souvenir. Full details will be provided with the passport.

The festival will also feature a food-themed check-in competition, talks by long-established local businesses, a short-video series featuring younger generations and a range of special offers. The campaign will run until 30 August.

Organisers said the programme was designed to bring together local culinary traditions, walks through the ancient city and consumer promotions. They hope visitors will discover the distinctive atmosphere of Quanzhou's World Heritage city centre while enjoying its food, streets and summer festivities.
