Event venue at Nanyi Plaza, Fengze District

On 14 May, the 2024 Quanzhou National Nutrition Week and the "5.20" Chinese Students' Nutrition Day campaign was launched at Nanyi Plaza in Fengze District. The event was jointly organised by the Quanzhou Municipal Health Commission and the Quanzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention, with support from the Fengze Health Bureau, Fengze CDC, and the local “Red Health Matrix” initiative.

This year marks the 10th annual National Nutrition Week (12–18 May), and the 35th Chinese Students' Nutrition Day (20 May). The 2024 theme—“Boost Nutrition with Dairy and Soy, Reduce Oil for Better Health”—encourages the public to increase their intake of dairy and soy-based foods, while advocating for reduced cooking oil consumption in line with the national “Healthy China, Nutrition First” strategy.

At the event, themed booths were set up offering free health check-ups, on-site medical consultations, and personalised nutrition advice. Interactive activities included a nutrition knowledge quiz with prizes and themed presentations. A special highlight of the event was the recognition of 30 local establishments as official “Quanzhou Nutrition and Health Canteens (Restaurants)” with a formal plaque-awarding ceremony.

In recent years, Quanzhou has prioritised public health and made notable progress in tackling nutritional challenges. In 2023, the city launched its first food composition monitoring programme and established 30 city-level nutrition-focused canteens and restaurants. Additionally, one local kindergarten was awarded national recognition as a “Nutrition and Health School” for early childhood education.

Moving forward, local governments across Quanzhou will continue both online and offline campaigns centred on the key themes of “less oil, more soy, and increased dairy”. These initiatives will help promote core messages from the Chinese Dietary Guidelines, contributing to the ongoing development of a Healthy Quanzhou.
